You Needs These Books

Good Morning

The other day I was at a networking group when I got the idea for a workshop on positioning your business to beat out the competition. I went back to my office to search my library for books on the subject. (Everyone should have a library of books on areas in which they make their living.) I found what I was looking for: “Positioning the Battle for Your Mind” by Al Ries and Jack Trout, 1986 McGraw-Hill and “The 22 Immutable Laws of Marketing” again by Ries and Trout, 1993 HarperBussiness.

These are two book you need in your library if you want to beat out your competition. And you want books not ebooks. So you can highlight them, write notes in the margins, and put sticky notes to mark pages you want to go back to for reference. Hard to do with an ebook.

The book Positioning covers such topics as “Getting into the Mind,” “Repositioning the Competition,” outlining how to use your present position to its best advantage and how to find and use your competition’s weakest link and build your strategy around it.

The other book “The 22 Immutable Laws of Marketing” is a great book to get the basics of moving your business forward. It covers such topics as: why it’s better to be first than it is to be better; marketing is not a battle of products, it’s a battle of perceptions; marketing effects take place over an extended period of time; and why success often leads to arrogance, and arrogance to failure.

These books might be a bit dated, but the concepts still work in today’s internet/social media world. In fact because they are from the 1990’s, chances are your competition has not heard of these books much less read them or applied their concepts. That gives you the edge you need to beat them. So order these books today and read them!

Till next time.
