Good Day
Tuesday I had a booth at the HEB Chamber Expo. There were about 110 companies exhibiting there. The chamber had a good turnout for a hot June day. I went around and visited almost every booth and dropped my business card into every fish bowl, basket and entry box I could find. In most cases I was the 1st card in, not because I wanted to win every drawing they had, but you have to stoke the fires so to speak. It’s like the tip jar you see everywhere. You have to have some money in it to get others to put in more, but no one likes to be first.
A lot of the booths were not collecting names. Maybe they were being very selective on collecting business cards from people who seemed interested at that moment. But I can tell you from experience (over 20 years of doing trade shows) that not collecting them means you’re going to miss a lot of opportunities to build relationships and business.
Businesses that did collect cards need to send everyone either a thank you card or a thank you email. So far I have received 2 emails! You need to thank people for coming by your booth and remind them of what you do and your main point.
Here is what I highlighted:
“I hope you enjoyed the prescription bottle and will use the contents as needed to help relieve the pain of not having enough customers, loss of income or unfulfilled dreams and goals.
Just a quick reminder that you can download the report “7 Warning Signs of Lost Customer Syndrome” and free consultation atwww.7SignsOfLCS.com.” Then I closed it out with; “If I can be of help to you or you have any questions, please contact me. Again, thank you for helping make the HEB Expo a success.”
The other thing I will do is follow up, by adding them to my email list and sending them my weekly Marketing Tip (this email) so I stay top of mind with them.
When you do trade shows remember get their information, then follow up to build the relationship and you will be successful.
Until next week,
