Businesses lose anywhere from 10% to 25% of their customer base each year! The reasons are many and in many cases not the businesses’ fault. So it behooves the business owner to always be promoting and attracting new customers as well as working their customer retention plan.

But in the real world that is not always possible. In fact most of the time it only happens when more business is really needed. One day the owner looks up from working in their business and realizes that they need more customers quickly. Now they have to work on their business.

They try what worked in the past, but it’s not working anymore! Now, they’re in a panic! What to do?

Before I tell you, let me say that this would never happen to you. You know that you have to continuously work on your business as well as in your business and schedule time each day or week to do so.

OK, back to the problem at hand. Look at what has changed in your business. What has caused your customer base to shrink and change. Also does your current base still reflect your best and ideal customer? If not, what steps can you take to re attract those customers? If you still have the customers you want but need more, what steps are you taking to bring them in and are they the correct steps?

If you are not sure what steps to take, then ask your base. Conduct a survey of your best customers. Ask them what media they use, including traditional media and social media. What media is their preferred one, and other information gathering questions.

From there you can put together a profile or avatar and use it to attract more customers.
