Developing an Elevator Speech

Good Morning

When I can, I go to a couple of networking/leads groups; I also go to after hours events. At the networking groups everyone is given 30 seconds to introduce themselves, their business and who would be their ideal customer. The 30 seconds is plenty of time if you know what to say and how to say it.

In networking classes that I taught over the years, I would show people the Oreo method of developing your 30 second introduction or elevator speech. This method is just like the cookie, two pieces of cookie with the filling in between.

The cookie part of your speech is your name and company. The filling is your description of what your company does and for whom with your tag line. No one wants to hear a long explanation of your company and all the products and/or services it provides. Just a main point that would be beneficial to the listener.

Here is an example:

Hi, I’m Phil Freedman, my company is My Marketing Cure. We help businesses at least two years old or more recover lost and past customers as well as help keep current ones from going to their competition. If this sounds like something you’re interested in for your business, then let me know. I’m Phil Freedman and my company is My Marketing Cure.

This took 25 seconds to say. It can be done!

John Carlton, a legendary copywriter who worked with Gary Halbert for 20 years, has invented a method for developing an elevator speech. If you would like a copy of John Carlton’s “How to Develop an Elevator Speech (USP),” just give me a call at 817-616-5155 or contact me by using this link and I’ll be glad to email you a copy.
