Smart Lawyer, Smart Marketing

Good Day
Sounds like the start of another lawyer joke, but in this case it’s not!
It’s about a very smart lawyer who knows how to market his practice, and we can all learn from it. Before I start let me tell you that in over 20 years, I can’t recall having ever seen anyone do what W. Bradley Parker, Esq. has done.
Last month I attended a chamber after hours mixer hosted by the Parker Law Firm (I have permission to write about this using his name). We had good beer, wine and food. The mixer was held in his office’s back yard, which was really nice. The turnout was a bit light, but this is the start of summer after all. All in all it was a typical chamber mixer.
What was so great and really the thing everyone should do was the follow-up. Parker sent me and everyone else a 6×9 envelope that was bulky. Inside was a thank you note for attending and enclosed (no selling of services) was a magnetic clip to hold papers that will stay on your refrigerator and a copy of his book, “Commercial Vehicle Collisions in Texas: Things you should know & questions you should ask after being involved in a trucking accident.”
I’ll remember him. Let me go through why his marketing is so great.First he sent a 6×9 bulky envelope that stood out and said open me! Second he enclosed a thank you note. When was the last time you got a thank you note for attending an after hours mixer or any event? Third he put the clip into the envelope for bulk but also so I would use the clip. Where else but on the refrigerator, where I would see it every time I open the door.  And Fourth he sent me a copy of his book! How many people do you know who have written and got published their own book and we are not talking e-book? Also most people will not throw out a book by someone they know; they will put it somewhere and they might even read it someday.
Being a published author puts you at a higher level than anyone else. It shows that you are an expert in your field. Who would you hire, the one who wrote the book on the subject or the one who hasn’t? I do have a suggestion to make sure that they never get rid of your book, but I’ll only give it out to authors or people who think they want to write one!
I could write many pages on the outstanding marketing strategies of writing a book and why you need one, how to use it and how to get started (I have written a short book myself), which I might do at a later time, since I’m almost out of space here.
