I was having lunch with a good friend yesterday, and we got talking about the subjects lines I use in these weekly tips. He said that they are just on the edge, that they make you stop and wonder.
Let me ask you a question: How many emails do you get in a day? As you scroll through them, how many do you stop at and read? Why do you stop and read the ones you do?
Could they be from someone you know? Maybe the subject line caught your attention?
The ones that caught your attention were doing what they were intended to do. They are supposed to stop you as you’re scrolling through and deleting your emails. They are there to break your train of thought or act as interrupters.
There are a number of techniques that you can use, including putting a person’s name in the subject line, using a digit, unusual punctuation or a catchy subject line.
So the next time you send out emails, try something a bit different and watch your open rate go up.
