I’ve been getting a lot of calls, mostly the Friday, 4:30 pm type, in which the caller wants to send out only the minimum amount of post cards to mail at bulk rates or the minimum amount that we can print in the smallest size offered, but they want the maximum in response and ROI.
These business people want only what is needed to just get by.
Why do they want just the minimum? It could for a number of reasons, like:
- Lack of money to invest in their business
- Lack of confidence in themselves
- Lack of faith or trust in the marketing of their business
- Lack of drive to grow or build their business
- Fear of taking a calculated “risk” in their business
After digging a bit, I find that their thinking is “if this does not work, then I’ll have lost or wasted my money and I don’t have a lot to lose.” 1st – Marketing is an investment in your business; if you’re not willing to invest in your business, then close it up and go work for someone. 2nd – You’re going to make mistakes and “waste” money; it’s what you do after that matters. If you learn what happened and how to prevent it from happening again, then you got something for your money. Knowing what NOT to do is valuable, but you have to move on. If you just curl up in a ball and become afraid to try anything again, then your business will fail.
Am I being hard on these people? You bet. If they are not willing to work at building their business, willing to make mistakes to grow it and willing to invest in all parts of it, then they should get out and make room for someone who will.
