I hope that everyone had a great Memorial Day weekend and that you took time out to remember what the day was all about. My friend Tyler Brown, owner of Fusion Under Glass Catering, really understood the meaning. Ask him how he got the blister and it wasn’t by cooking food, maybe he was cooking!
The Memorial Day weekend marks the start of summer. It’s also very close to the halfway point in the year. NOW is the time to look and see if your sales projections match up with reality. OK, stop laughing. Again now is the time to really put in place a marketing plan that can get you more sales.
You have one month before we start the second half. Look over your books and see how many new customers you got in. How much did they spend? How much did you spend on all your marketing from the first of the year to today? Divide that amount by the number of new customers and that is how much you spent per new customer. Using that number as a base, you can put together a workable marketing plan to maybe double or triple the number of customers that you can get in the door.
Most of the time we are spending our dollars on the wrong thing. I’m still paying on Yellow Page ads (in the printed book) that have not brought in one call in at least the last 6 months. Let me tell you this: You really have to read and follow the fine print to cancel their contact; if you don’t, it rolls over.
Are you using your dollars where they will do the most good? Are you going after the two most profitable types of customers or are you spending all your money going after the most expensive ones, not the ones who will spend the most or come back again and again?
