Eating, Drinking, Partying or Networking?

Last night I went to two after-hours networking mixers. Yeah, I know I’m a real party animal. Now as you know, the purpose of an after- hours mixer is to network, meet new people and maybe get some leads and ultimately business. It’s not, as my good friend Mike Stammer used to say when we taught networking classes many years ago, Net-eating or net-drinking, it’s Networking.

Well the first event had plenty of people, food and drinks, plus they had lots of space to network.

The second event also had plenty of people and was conducive to networking. Both events had music, one was soft background and the other had live music.

Which do you think was the better one for networking and getting business?

If you are going to host an after hours mixer/networking event, here are a few things to keep in mind.

Have finger foods, food that does not require you to sit down with a knife and fork. You’re not serving dinner even though some people treat it as such. Have both alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks. The most important point is that people must be able to talk to and hear each other.

The second event had lots of great potential and was starting to rock as a networking event until the band started.

That’s all for now!
