Are you are not getting as many customers in the door these days as you’d like? Well it could be the slow time of the year, the weather, the economy, or it could be your marketing/advertising.
Most business owners select their marketing/advertising by which media salesperson walks in the door with the best deal. It does not matter if the media is the right fit for the business or more importantly for their customer base. But in fact, media selection should be the last item a business owner needs to consider.
OK, so how do you get more customers in the door?
First look at the overall marketing message that you have developed. Does it explain why you are different? Does it enter the conversation going on in your customer’s mind? Is it addressing their concerns and needs? Is it solving their problems?
You need to make sure that your message is targeted to your customers.
Next, are you going after the correct customers and have you identified them correctly? You don’t want to be like the carpet cleaning company that targets the area around its business and only after wasting a lot of money finds out that that area has mostly renters and people who live in low-rent apartments who don’t get their carpets cleaned.
Then only after you have developed the proper message to the correct target group can you select the media that the group uses.
When this is all done properly, you will have more customers than you can handle, and it will not matter what time of year it is or what the economy is like.
